One or 1? Numbers vs. Numerals
There are so many rules–and so many different style guides with their own unique sets of rules–that I’m only going to address one today: AP. This post gives you the lowdown on the AP’s guidelines for writing out numbers versus using numerals.
Afflicted With Diaeresis?
If you’re an avid New Yorker reader like I am, you’re probably familiar with this little accent mark–often mistaken for the German umlaut–that’s placed over words with two consecutive vowels:
Coöperation, coördinate, reëngineer, and preëminent to name a few.
Punctuation Changes Meaning
Maybe you’re slapping your forehead right now, saying “duh!” or even “der!”
You’re likely thinking,
This is SO OBVIOUS. At least explain semi-colons to me or something else useful.
